character information
name: Leliana
canon: Dragon Age
canon point: End of Dragon Age Inquisition (not Tresspasser)
age: 30ish

(canon) background: Wiki; Leliana's Song DLC

Leliana's world state in Origins includes Riona Cousland as the Hero of Ferelden. She travels with the Warden and Hero of Ferelden to stop the Blight and on their way. During their travels the Hero of Ferelden recruited everyone, including Shale, and completed all companion quests. Alistair is hardened by the Warden and Leliana not. They also "kill" Flemeth, Morrigan's mother, who turns out to be alive in later games. Along the way they saved the Mages of Kinloch hold from the Rite of Annulment, recruiting both Mages and Templars to help stop the Blight. Riona and the party supported Bhelen for Orzammar’s throne and assisted Shale and Paragon Caridin in destroying the Anvil of the Void. They brokered peace between the Dalish and the werewolves, breaking the curse and enlisted the Circle of Mages to save Conner and did not have to sacrifice Isolde to blood magic at Redcliff. Alistair, Wynne and Leliana traveled with the Warden through Haven, the ruined temple complex and the Gauntlet to reach the Urn of Sacred Ashes to revive Eamon, Alistair's uncle, from his near-death. During the Landsmeet the Hero of Ferelden supported Alistair as king, winning most of the nobles to their side without Anora’s support. She then let Alistair duel Loghain and execute him as a traitor. Riona took Morrigan up on the offer of the ritual and convinced Alistair to sleep with her to complete it, after some serious discussion, thus conceiving Kieran.

In Dragon Age 2, Marian Hawke is the protagonist and while Leliana has a smaller role in the game, her knowledge of event is as follows: Carver survives the journey to Kirkwall from Lothering, the group discover the red lyrium idol with Varric Tethras and Anders, only for Carver to catch the Darkspawn Taint and have to join the Grey Wardens or die. Marian recruited all possible companions including Sebastian Vael. Marian and Fenris instigate a romance with one another and, of the major choices, she gives gives the book to Isabela during the Qunari invasion but Isabela does not return to give back the book to the Arishok. Marian single-handedly fights the Qunari Arishok and is named Champion of Kirkwall and ends up killing Anders after he blows up the Chantry, killing hundreds of innocent people to start a war. Marian sides with the mages in the Kirkwall Circle. She kills Orsino and then Meredith before leaves Kirkwall to draw off attention to her companions companions.

(original) world:

abilities: Leliana is very proficient with a bow. She is also well equipped to withstand heavy torture, has a spy network at her disposal that would make any grown man cry, and is charismatic enough to be able to get dirt on anyone about anything. She's a dangerous woman, basically.

strengths: Leliana's greatest strength is her devotion, be it to mother Dorothea who would later become Divine Justinia V to Inquisitor Trevelyan, but no one holds that devotion as well as the Hero of Ferelden, Riona Cousland. Riona is someone who believed in Leliana when no one else understood her visions gifted to her by the Maker during the Fifth Blight. She gave Leliana the strength to face Marjolaine, her bard mentor and not to let her go instead of killing her.

Another strength is her shrewdness. Leliana, while she can sometimes get blinded by her grief for Justinia in Inquisition, shows great character and understands what is right. Her decisions for the Inquisition are often based in what she believes is right for the Inquisition and maybe not always what is right for herself. She puts her duty above all else.

Leliana is knowledgeable, capable of discerning information from others without their even realizing it, and there are few people she knows little about. It is her line of work, first as a bard and then as the Left Hand of the Divine and finally as Spymaster for the Inquisition, that grants her the tools to have such a network of information across Thedas but Leliana is capable of spotting a lie quite easily with just a few words.

weaknesses: Leliana can at times be quick to anger in more recent years as her grief and the time between the events of Origins and Inquisition have hardened her heart a bit. She uses that anger as a sharp tool and is careful to only use it when necessary.

Leliana can sometimes trust too easily, to her detriment. She was never betrayed by the Warden but as a young girl she put all of her faith in Marjolaine and was taught very quickly that this was a mistake when the woman tried to have her framed for murder. There are also times when she discards her ability to trust others and becomes too mistrusting and suspicious, though her suspicions usually turn out right. As part of her work she has to be shrewd and that shrewdness has kept her and others alive.

There are times when Leliana can either be too serious or too playful, given a situation. She often times teases Morrigan or Cullen, but there are times when she gets so serious about her job that it clouds her ability to see people who can be good or that sometimes the best solution is not always swift murder.

job skills (optional): able to spot a lie very quickly, deadly fighter, excellent tactician
housing (optional): Anywhere will do, honestly. She's lived on the road before so camps are no big deal to her, but four walls and a roof will do her just fine.
